About This Quote

Sometimes there are no words to help one's courage. Sometimes you just have to jump. This quote is one of those that, as a child, you didn't fully understand its meaning until you were older and more mature. As a young child, if you were scared of something, your parents might try to explain it in the simplest terms possible.

For instance, when my mother was afraid of something, she would say "I'm afraid of the dark." When I was much younger, I never really got it. I didn't understand why she was afraid of the dark when it wasn't actually dark at night. I finally figured it out when I was about eight or nine years old and my brother asked me if I was afraid of the dark.

I said no (I was too busy trying to figure out his game), but he didn't believe me. So he took me outside and made me walk through our house during the night without turning on any lights. When I got scared, he touched my arm and said "You're not afraid of the dark." That's when it all clicked in place for me and I understood what his point was.
